France 2001
Here are the pictures from our Trip to France. Thanks for dropping by.

Beaune & The Burgundy Wine Region

The big landmark in the city of Beaune is the Hotel-Dieu. Built in 1443 by the Chancellor of Philippe-le-Bon as a "palace for the poor". From the Middle ages to the 20th century, the Hotel-Dieu took in countless sick and poor. In 1971, the medical activities were transfered to a modern hospital.

The model on the right, is a scale model of the hotel, created by a patient and made out of straw!

Museum of Wine — This building housed the Burgundy Wine Museum. The collections show the history of wine making in the Burgundy region, showing the work of the wine-grower and cooper.

Flowers — This region had some of the most beautiful floral displays. The picture on the left shows a street corner display, including a waterfall.

Pinot Noir Vineyards — We drove around Burgundy Wine country. Unfortunately we discovered that California is one of the few states that doesn't allow shipments of wine to be sent in from France. They also charged a heafty fee for tasting, so we only went into one cellar. The rest of our wine tasting was with meals.
