Palace of Versailles

Originally built as a hunting lodge in 1623, Versaillles is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. The declaration ending the American Revolution was signed there by British and US representatives on 20 January 1783, and the Treaty of Versailles was signed in the Hall of Mirrors on 28 June 1919.

The Hall of Mirrors — The Treaty of Versailles was signed in this Hall. This huge room had no purpose other than to connect rooms to one another.

The King's Bedroom — This was the King's "official" bedroom. During our tour, we were told that although the King hardly ever slept here (Since he spent most nights with his Mistress), visiting royalty was given the Honor of watching the King get into and out of bed each day. So the lucky King had to put on a show twice per day, making sure he returned to his room very early each morning before the visitors were let in.
