GivernyLa Musardiere This is where we spent our first night in France. It's a small hotel and restaurant that was built in 1880. It was only a few blocks away from Claude Monet's House and Gardens. We had a good traditional French dinner at the hotel, and the area was very quiet. A quaint country home On Friday morning, we woke up pretty early and had some time to waste before Monet's House and Gardens opened to the public. We decided to take a walk around the small village. This house was pretty typical of the houses in the area. The gardens at Monet's house These are the gardens that inspired the famous impressionist painter Claude Monet. It was a very popular tourist attraction, and was actually one of the most crowded places we visited during our entire trip. The house & an Apple fence This small fence is used to separate a part of the garden. The interesting thing is that it's actually an espaliered apple tree that has been pruned to grow with it's branches very low and parallel to the ground like a fence. La Terrasse After battling the crowds at Monet's house, we walked to this little sidewalk cafe and had an early lunch of cheese and apple juice (apples are a specialty of the region). |
